We have all given flowers to a friend or loved one for their birthday, but did you know that you can give them flowers that specifically symbolise their birth month? Flowers also have meanings attributed to them so that you can express almost any sentiment or emotion with a flower. (In the Victorian era sending someone a special message encoded in a bouquet of flowers was all the rage.)
The flower for January is the carnation, February violet, March jonquil, April sweet pea, May lily of the valley, June rose, July larkspur, August gladiolus, September aster, October calendula, November chrysanthemum, and December poinsettia.
Every flower also has a special meaning so that you can combine the blooms in a bouquet or flower arrangement to send almost any message imaginable. These hidden or encoded messages were first introduced into Europe in the early 1800‘s. The system was based on the Persian symbolism and meanings associated with specific flowers. The original name for these messages was a selam, but the Victorians quickly came to call them “Persian love letters”.
Do not be mistaken into thinking that you can only use flowers to express messages of love; you can send birthday flowers to not only your partner or lover expressing love (or even lust and desire), but you can send messages of friendship, admiration, respect and just about any other emotion or sentiment you can imagine. If you wish to find out the meanings of specific flowers so you can send such a message there are numerous books on the subject, and web sites that let you search by not only the flower but the meaning.
Regardless of whether you wish to send a hidden message or not flowers are still a perfect birthday gift, they are affordable and everyone men and women appreciate their beauty.
